Playlist: Katy Perry

I got Katy Perry’s album a few weeks ago. Yesterday, I had it on loop and I am hooked.

She has a track “Ur So Gay” with the lines Ur so gay and u don’t even like boys. She’s one cool chick.

Playlist: Nickelback and Coldplay

Nickelback’s new Dark Horse album is currently on repeat in my playlist. I especially like “Gotta Be Somebody”, “I’d Come For You” and “Today Was Your Last Day”. The lyrics are somewhat cheesy though. Coldplay’s Viva La Vida is also addictive. Most of the songs are repeat-worthy. Check out “Viva La Vida”, “Lost!”, “Lovers in Japan” and “Strawberry Swing”

The First – Bandang Walang Pangalan

We left the office last Saturday a little past 2 PM. Jay, Sam, Phoebe, Naz and I went to Robert’s place for their fiesta. Robert was with us of course. We took a bus and endured an hour trip. We finally reached their place and his parents served us food right away. As fiestas go, there were a lot of food. There was a case of beer too. After we’re full, we started drinking. The plan was for each of us (at least Sam and I) to have a couple bottles each only because of the gig we’ll be having later that night. I don’t wanna mess up my lyrics. I ended up having five. I don’t know how much Sam had. Jay, Sam, Phoebe, Naz and I left Robert’s place at 7 PM. Robert did not come with us – fiesta, remember?

The whole trip back to Cubao, I was already yapping how I will end up messing the gig that night. We went to Sam’s place first and I had a quick shower to cool myself and to fetch the other Jay (Norman). We had a change of clothes – just the shirt really. Then we finally went to Dayo Bar. We were at Dayo bar a few minutes before 10 PM. Miko and Dhon arrived a few minutes later. One of the guys there told us that we’re going to go first.

I wasn’t feeling any queasiness really — maybe a little, but I am not shaking. My throat was just dry. And then we were onstage. I just planned to sing. I don’t want to do any talking but while Dhon, Sam, Miko and Jay setting up their stuff, another guy went up onstage and he told me I will have to introduce the band before the first song. I was telling Dhon that he should do the talking but he looked more scared than I was. I finally grabbed the mic, greeted the audience a good evening and told them that we had no name. Then came the songs – everybody was stiff during the first few minutes of My Hero, there was a little mistake with the bass during the middle of Soul to Squeeze, and then came Santeria — our final song which they told us was great. Phoebe has a video but it’s not uploaded online yet. It’s weird watching and listening to myself sing. Pffft!

That was the first.

Tonight at Dayo Bar, Cubao. I don’t know where that is. My stomach does not feel good.

Learning To Rock

A month ago, Dhon, one of the few people I always hang out with in the office, has invited me to join their band. A week after, Sam, another one of the few people I always hang out with in the office, jokingly named the band Miker Learns to Rock — the band was named The Dhon when they played during the company’s Christmas party last year. Lousy but funny. When Dhon told me I was going to be the vocalist, I did not feel anything. I just said I have never sang like that before — I mean in a band. And I sound better when I am drunk… and this and that and then I eventually agreed. We’re gonna play in this year’s Christmas party.

I was thinking it is too early for any practices but then we already had a couple studio rehearsals since last week. We now have a 5-song set. Whoa! I am really doing this!

Doo doo doo doo dingle zing a dong bone!

Once

I am not a fan of mushy soppy stuff but I think Once is not mushy enough to make me not watch it. It’s simple, unexpected and deep. It’s raw, natural and moving. I will remember this movie for a long time. The music cuts from the movie are staying in my current playlist for a while. It pictures how life/dream/love, in general, simply goes — in a way that you can almost relate. It makes you think you have gone through their share of this world. It’s so familiar that it makes you wish that somehow you will be able to walk the characters’ steps and walk through similar rounds just to know how it’d actually be like, even just for once.

August Rush

Sometimes the world tries to knock it out of you. But I believe in music the way that some people believe in fairy tales.

Yeah boy, I am with you! The movie was a great watch. I heard from a friend a couple days ago that is was a great watch (thanks for the tip!). The movie is about music and how a kid heavily believes that it will lead him to find his parents and them to him. I thought it was a heavy drama (which I am not a big fan of) at first but it wasn’t that at all. Sure, there were tear-jerking drippy moments but it’s not overdone. I don’t remember myself crying — hehe. The tracks were also great so I had to download it too.

It stars Freddie Highmore (the kid from that Spiderwick movie), Keri Russell and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

First Day

MercyMe – I Can Only Imagine

I woke up earlier than usual. I just hope I will be able to stay up all day — no dozing off. This is my first day of training. I will be isolated from the rest of the office starting today — for a month. As I have posted earlier, this is something new to me and I hope I will do well. Sana lang hindi sila mabore considering na relatively boring yung topics and the fact that I am a boring person. Hmmmm, am I?

MercyMe is an American contemporary Christian band known for their hit I Can Only Imagine. You should try building your music profile in last.fm. Collide

Howie Day – Collide

“Even the best fall down sometimes. Even the wrong words seem too right.”

Howie Day is on repeat in my playlist.

I am getting ready for CCF. I need to attend the sunday service. I haven’t been attending since… I can’t remember. So I should keep my hands off the keyboard now dammit.
