Coming Soon – Max Payne

I’ve played the PC game and the first time I’ve read that Mark Wahlberg will be playing the role, I was psyched. It’s also my first time to see the poster — which I think looks cool.

John Moore directs. His works include Behind Enemy Lines which is one of a few movies I’ve watched more than a couple of times. I am hopeful it won’t disappoint.

Mona will be played by Mila Kunis. This, I am not so sure.

The Motorcyle Diaries

The Motorcycle Diaries (image from Wikipedia)

The Motorcycle Diaries (image from Wikipedia)

It follows the travels of the 23-year-old Ernesto “Che” Guevara with his friend Alberto Granado. I am not familiar with Che but this film showed something of him. His travels to the Americas opened him to the realities of his time. He was a changed man. In my opinion, based on how his character is depicted on the film, he is a very honest, caring and passionate man. During the last part of the film, they resided for quite some time in a leper colony in Peru. A river runs across this area which also marked the division between the healthy and the sick. The staff and volunteers are housed in one side while the patients are housed in the other. In the night of Che’s 24th birthday, he swam across the river to get to the “sicker” side of the colony to truly celebrate his birthday. He didn’t care if he was born with bad lungs (there were several scenes in the film that described Che’s asthma attacks), he just had to get there. This was genuinely poignant.

Watch it, you’ll learn a thing or two from Che and his friend’s travels.

In the province, time seems to move very slowly. I eat my breakfast for 45 minutes. And when I am bored, I take pictures of boring things.

Superbad

I saw Superbad last night. It was alright. I don’t remember these types of films much. You’ll laugh — and that’s it. I can’t even remember the last time I watched a high school comedy film.

Home Visit

Falling Slowly – Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova (OST – Once)

The training that I have been conducting at work is over. So I applied for a day and a half leave to visit my family in Ilocos. I will be having that trip tonight after work. My last visit was four months ago. I think much has changed. My auntie kept raving how my cousins miss me. Haha, yeah I miss them too. I haven’t shopped for anything to bring home yet. Maybe I won’t, I will just buy some pizza at some fastfood there. I have more than enough to carry already.

So I won’t be around for at least three days. I hope to bring back some good photos during my vacation. I haven’t been posting any photos for the last months so I hope I will have some when I come back.

Run Fat Boy Run

Run Fat Boy Run

Run Fat Boy Run (from Wikipedia)

It’s about Dennis Doyle from downstairs’ marathon. I shouldn’t have played it an hour past my bed time… Now I am three hours past my bed time. It’s a fun run! Simon Pegg and his tummy is just hilarious. And there’s a mix of love story to it too. Well, it’s I think more of a love story but what kept me watching was the idea that in the next few seconds there’s always something to laugh about. One picture I still remember was Jake’s (Doyle’s son) face when Libby’s (Doyle’s supposed wife but he left her at the altar on their wedding day — and she was pregnant then — yeah, really big, showing tummy pregnant) smug fiance was giving his “It’s-not-what-it-looks-like” speech in defense of his tripping Doyle during the race. I would have put a screen cap up but I am just too lazy to do that now. Just watch it! I think chicks are gonna love this movie too. Who wouldn’t want to see a movie with the lines “I did a stupid stupid thing, but it was only because I thought spoiling your day was better than ruining your life. Does that make any sense?” — Doyle talking to Libby, referring to why he ran away on their wedding day.

Hey, are there any more Simon Pegg movies there? I have Shaun of the Dead but I haven’t watched it yet. I’d google “Simon Pegg movies” but I am just too lazy to do that now. See. I am so lazy that I had to reuse my phrases.

The Diving Bell And The Butterfly

It’s a deep, strong and moving story narrated and seen from the eyes of Jean-Dominique Bauby, the main character, who suffers from a lock-in syndrome after a stroke attack. He is almost completely paralyzed but he can hear, understand and think normally. You can feel how Jean-Do grieves and screams inside but you’ll find it very comforting that he still laughs even if no sound comes out of his mouth and that he’s pissed when somebody blocks his view of the television. His “phone conversation” with his dad conveyed the film’s strongest feelings quite flawlessly. The film progresses as he writes his story with blinks of his left eye. It presents many realities — the value of time, family and feelings; of hope and strength; of sanity. It appears depressing at first but this helped deliver an extraordinary and an even more elating experience in the end.

Thanks to Wikipedia for the image.
